Now's the Time to Visit Greece for Cheap Holidays

by Jason B. on December 2, 2010

Greece will always be beautiful.

When Greece is in the headlines these days, it’s usually focusing on the financial chaos that the islands are experiencing. Tourists have cancelled their trips in record numbers after watching news feeds of rioting Grecians on the streets of Athens. As the Greek economy is highly seasonal and relies on tourism more than most other European countries, this has punished their economy more than it would be otherwise.

What does this mean for you, the cash-conscious traveler? It means that you can get the same world-class Mediterranean vacation as you could in previous years for much less money. The clubs and restaurants scattered around the Greek islands are now uncrowded. You’ll face less competition for the best hotels, villas, and rooms. Greeks are likely to be more polite than they would be otherwise – because each traveler has become that much more valuable to their economy.

Now’s the time to go island hopping – before the financial crisis becomes resolved. While other tourists are cancelling their trips, you need to book the cheap holidays of your life.

You, a boat, and some of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean.

There’s plenty to do in Greece, of course, and there’s lots of coastline to do it on. You can go scuba diving off the coast of Crete. Or go sailing in a catamaran nearby the isle of Hydra. While the capital city of Athens has been hit by regular strikes related to the financial crisis, the outlying islands where most vacationers spend their time have been relatively unaffected. You can take the same vacation that would have cost thousands of euros a few years ago for half that or less now. While your friends are shivering in their flats during the winter, you can be noshing on octopus freshly caught by a Greek diver smothered in lemon juice under the warm Mediterranean sun.

Get going before the protests stop!
